A researcher at MIRMI, together with researchers from Örebro University, has developed an innovative approach to radar odometry, which earned the 'Best Paper Award in Computer & Robot Vision' from the IEEE RAS Technical Committee on Computer & Robot Vision. Their work introduces CFEAR (Continuous Frequency Extended Adaptive Registration). This method surpasses existing algorithms in accuracy and generalizability across diverse environments, including smoky, dusty, or foggy conditions. These five highlights of geriatronics research from 2024 show the potential of care assistance robotics.
Research in the field of geriatronics has been underway at the TU Munich campus in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for over five years. First and foremost is the GARMI care assistance robot. It is set to develop into an all-in-one helper and later assist nursing staff. GARMI's repertoire already includes a lot, from simple pick-up and delivery services to possible physiotherapeutic use in the rehabilitation of patients and telemedical applications such as ultrasound.

A myoelectric prosthesis for the hand is the focus of the CyberTUM student team. At the Cybathlon 2024, pilot Adnan Jukic will control it in the Arm Prothesis Race with the help of muscle signals in the forearm.
