MIRMI

An Integrative Research Institute of TUM

The Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI) is one of TUM’s Integrative Research Institutes (IRI). The institute’s goal is to research the fundamentals of robotics, perception, and artificial intelligence to develop human-centered, innovative and sustainable technological solutions for the central challenges of our time in the sectors of health, work, environment, and mobility. Humans are at the heart of MIRMI's research and innovation agenda. This means that the institute develops intelligent machines that can safely interact with and learn from humans, and that, in turn, can support human activities for the benefit of people and societies. To make this possible, MIRMI bundles the expertise of more than 60 professors from various disciplines, including engineering, computer science, life sciences, medicine, and social sciences. Close cooperation with institutions in the fields of philosophy, ethics, and law also ensures responsible technology research and development, and subsequent integration into society.

MIRMI synergizes this diverse academic expertise with the expertise of local cooperation partners from politics, society, industry, start-ups and the broader research community (e.g. Helmholtz Zentrum München, Deutsches Museum, Deutsches Herzzentrum München, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, DLR, fortiss, bidt, ...) as well as the excellent national and international communities in various dimensions of the TUM family. By building a collaborative environment for the already existing cutting-edge research and teaching at one of the leading European universities, MIRMI aims to become a crystallization point for robotics and machine intelligence far beyond the Munich area.
