Researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have found that patients place greater trust in autonomous ultrasound robots when guided by a virtual avatar.
During an autonomous ultrasound examination, an avatar assists TUM researcher Feng Li from the Chair of Computer Applications in Medicine & Augmented Reality.
The avatar explains the procedure, answers questions in multiple languages – and measurably reduces patients’ stress levels. The technology is designed for regions with physician shortages, paving the way for scalable, patient-centered diagnostics.
