A scalable path towards humanoid foundation model

Abstract: Recent advances in foundation models have enabled robots to imitate complex manipulation tasks from demonstrations but rely heavily on large amounts of teleoperation data. This talk presents a scalable framework for generating training data for humanoid foundation models by combining optimization-based task and motion planning (TAMP), pre-trained vision-language models (VLMs), and a generalist reinforcement learning (RL) policy.

Biography

Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Bungartz is Professor of Scientific Computing at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Director of the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ). He studied mathematics, computer science, and economics at TUM, where he also earned his PhD and habilitation. After professorships in Augsburg and Stuttgart, he returned to TUM in 2004. His research focuses on numerical algorithms, parallel simulations, and high-performance computing. Since 2022, he has served as Founding Dean of the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology.
