Technology and expertise as pillars of our research
Research in the field of geriatronics deals with the challenges posed by the ongoing demographic change in Germany. Solutions are being developed to enable senior citizens and people in need of care to lead a self-determined life in their home environment with the help of intelligent robotic systems. The research activities of the Geriatronics Lighthouse Initiative are based on the basic research of the Technical University of Munich and the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence. The various chairs at TUM conduct basic research. Find out more about the MIRMI laboratories here.
Our research at the Geriatronics Campus in Garmisch-Partenkirchen includes the development of advanced technologies such as the humanoid robot GARMI and lightweight exoskeletons. These systems are designed to work autonomously or via teleoperation using multimodal input devices. The experiments carried out in the laboratory test the capabilities of these robotic systems in real environments, such as the test apartment for older people attached to the research center, to demonstrate their practical application. Here, the research center team also works with partner organizations such as Caritas and the Caritas Care School to integrate these innovations into everyday life.
