From Garmisch-Partenkirchen out into the world
As a young research discipline, geriatronics needs a university home and ideal framework conditions in order to develop in a practical and user-oriented manner. With Garmisch-Partenkirchen, its proximity to Munich and the disproportionately high proportion of older people in the population, as well as the good infrastructure for care and health, this location has been found. At the same time, the entire region benefits from the establishment of a university institution that was previously not available in this rural area.
The idea of creating a science campus here arose from the coming together of exactly the right partners and personalities with the right expertise in the right place at the right time. TUM is shaping technological progress for people and society. As the AI Mission Institute, MIRMI puts its research findings into practice. And here at the Geriatronics Research Center in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, we have the unique opportunity to turn our research into tried-and-tested applications with the right partners right next door.
Two degree courses are being planned: a Master of Geriatronics and a degree course in the management of new technologies in the healthcare sector. Gradually, up to six professorships will be created. Teaching on the campus is scheduled to begin in the winter semester 28/29, although it will still be anchored locally in Munich. As soon as the campus construction in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is completed, teaching will also move here. The number of students will gradually increase. In the first semesters there will probably be 50 to 150, but a few years later there could be up to 300.
