Für ihre Masterarbeit bekam Fandi Bi mehrere Preise. Das Thema damals: In Unternehmen faule Kompromisse in Bezug auf mechatronische Systeme ausfindig machen – so genannte Technical Debts. In ihrer Doktorarbeit geht es der Wissenschaftlerin aus dem Lehrstuhl für Automatisierung und Informationssysteme von Prof. Birgit Vogel-Heuser der Technischen Universität München (TUM) nun darum, sie systematisch aufzulösen.

Following many years of research at the Technical University of Munich, the start-up Ebenbuild won the digital health category at EIT Health Catapult 2022. The company aims to use AI software to generate unprecedented data on patients’ lungs and provide tailored therapy to treat acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The pioneers behind this company are Dr. Kei Müller, Dr. Jonas Biehler, Prof. Wolfgang Wall and Dr. Karl-Robert Wichmann.

The Innovation Radar of the European Commission (EC) featured four innovations developed in various TUM / MIRMI projects in April and May 2022. The Innovation Radar platform builds on the information and data gathered by independent experts, who review the innovations in ongoing projects funded by the European Commission and provide an independent opinion on their market potential. The independent assessment of the market potential of a publicly funded project aims to connect innovators with investors and maximize funding opportunities for European tech entrepreneurs.

As part of her M.Sc. in Medical Technologies at TUM, Veronika Spieker conducted her master thesis on the design, implementation and experimental validation of upper-limb prostheses at MIRMI. MIRMI announced during the MIRMI General Assembly on May 05. that 7 out of the 16 members in its Science Board changed their role as sector leaders. The Science Board is composed of leaders from the Integrative Research Institute's sectors of Health, Work, Environment, Mobility, Robotics, Perception, Artificial Intelligence, and Education. MIRMI organized its first General Assembly, to which Principal Investigators, MIRMI Lab coordinators as well as the Institute's administrative team were invited. The forum took place on 05 May in MIRMI's temporary premises at Georg-Brauchle-Ring 58, 80992 Munich. On April 7, 2022, the biannual meeting of the Industry Advisory Board (IAB) with the Science Board took place in the interim premises of MIRMI at Georg-Brauchle-Ring. A total of over 30 participants from industry and the MIRMI community learned about the MIRMI highlights of the past 6 months, the concepts for new "Innovation Sectors" in the field of Environment and Mobility in MIRMI as well as the latest technological and political developments in the field.

In its April 06, 2022 issue, the renowned Süddeutsche Zeitung tells the story and projects of Rafael Hostettler, founder of the robotics company Devanthro and external researcher at the TUM Chair of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Real-Time Systems. Hostettler adopted Roboy, a humanoid robot with ten fingers and ten toes. Roboy can be controlled via telepresence with virtual reality goggles. Roboy aims to solve the nursing shortage and enable the researcher to live after death. Devanthro recently moved into the Munich Urban Colab.

Following many years of research at the Technical University of Munich, the start-up Ebenbuild GmbH aims to fundamentally improve the mechanical ventilation of ICU patients with ARDS and drive significant, long-term improvements in treatment outcomes. The company develops personalized simulation models of patients’ lungs using patient data, such as medical images. These Digital Twins allow doctors to make sound treatment decisions by accurately picturing how mechanical ventilation will affect individual patients.
