Health, Mobility, Work and Environment
The focus of research at MIRMI is the formation and development of the interdisciplinary scientific discipline of machine intelligence. The MIRMI’s research strategy is purpose-driven. The MIRMI envisions building the bridge between groundbreaking research on machine intelligence and the ability to put into practical application breakthrough innovations that address the societal missions of our time in the sectors of health, work, mobility, and the environment.
The mission-based approach is nurtured and enabled by bottom-up synergistic focus groups that allow interdisciplinary teams of scientists to team up pursuing high potential, fundamentally new approaches up to high risk, high gain initiatives. The four underlying societal missions are as follows:
Future of Health
Enhancing the healthcare system by creating inclusive, smart medical and nursing services with improved quality for a more independent lifestyle, especially for the elderly, while respecting privacy and cybersecurity issues (including security by design and data integrity). The goal is to create the future AI- and Robotics-supported hospital and nursing home for inclusive optimal medical care, independent living for the elderly and personalized medicine.
Future of Mobility
Laying the foundations to the “Future of Work” and “Future of Health” missions by creating AI- and Robotics-supported sustainable mobility solutions tailored to different regional needs through electrifying, automating and interconnecting future transportation systems for safe and improved travel. This also involves redesigned mobility spaces and holistic mobility concepts for high-density urban areas as well as novel approaches for reaching remote and potentially dangerous locations.
Future of Work
Ending inhumane working conditions through intelligent and self-repairing infrastructure that supports productivity and performance for agile production and construction sites with easy, integrated maintenance. The goal is to create the future AI- and Robotics-supported self-repairing collaborative infrastructure, manufacturing and construction site that enables human-centered and efficient operation as well as flexible production.
Future of the Environment
Helping to protect our natural resources and the planet on which we and future generations live by creating energy-aware/-efficient AI and Robotics that help mitigate climate change and environmental degradation, e.g. for a sustainable and resource-efficient food agriculture system while taking environmental conservation into consideration.
