The IEEE RAS Early Academic Career Award recognizes outstanding researchers who have demonstrated exceptional scientific leadership and impactful contributions to robotics and automation within the first seven years of their academic careers. Established more than three decades ago by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, the award is considered one of the highest honors for early-career academics in the field. Selection is based on scientific excellence, societal impact, and contributions to education and mentoring.

Prof. Piazza received the award for her pioneering contributions to robotic grasping and manipulation, bioinspired robotic hands, and intelligent prosthetic systems that bridge robotics, neuroscience, and rehabilitation engineering. Her research has advanced the development of dexterous and human-centered robotic technologies, with applications ranging from assistive devices and prosthetics to robotic manipulation.
