The self-driving shuttle "Edgar" from the Technical University of Munich demonstrates how research can become reality. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, Edgar autonomously navigates the dense crowds of Oktoberfest. It recognizes pedestrians, cyclists, traffic signs, and even handles unpredictable situations—like a shattered glass bottle on the street.
Edgar Driving Through Munich, Near the TUM Campus.
Outfitted with cameras, radar, and laser sensors, Edgar proves that autonomous driving is possible even in so-called "unstructured environments." This innovative project by TU Munich and its research consortium MCube was successfully showcased to Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter, Bavaria's Science Minister Markus Blume, and the President of TUM, Thomas Hofmann.
